WARNING. The article you are about to read may create feelings of sadness and despair among automotive aficionados. That’s right, we’re looking at 10 of the worst cases of vehicular abandonment ever captured on camera. This story has the potential to ruin your day, so read on with caution…

Ferrari 166 MM

First up is a 166 Mille Miglia (MM), which was the car that scored many of Ferrari’s first international victories and helped them become a serious competitor in the racing industry. That’s what makes it so sad to see this one found abandoned in a Tucson Arizona backyard.

Ferrari Enzo

The Ferrari Enzo was introduced in 2002, and only 399 were ever built, making it one of the most exclusive supercars in the world. The person who abandoned this particular one was believed to be a British citizen who leased the Ferrari and then fled Dubai when he couldn’t afford the repayments and traffic fines.

Lamborghini Aventador

aventador

This Lamborghini Aventador Roadster was found at the same airport as the Ferrari Enzo shown above. Whoever abandoned this supercar spent an large amount of money not only on the car itself, but also the rare two digit numberplate. It had been sitting so long that people began to write in the dust that had accumulated on the car’s body.

Mercedes-Benz 300SL

mercedes-benz-300sl

This classic Mercedes-Benz 300SL with its gull wing doors, technological firsts, and low production numbers is considered one of the most collectible Mercedes-Benz models ever made, with vehicles swapping hands anywhere between $1,000,000 and $2,500,000 US dollars – that’s what makes the discovery of this particularly sad example all the more shocking. Story has it that the original owner from Stubenville, Ohio, parked it outside under a tree for over 30 years before selling it on to a new owner. The car was reportedly still driveable at that time and came with a pair of replacement floor plans, which were later thrown away after the new owner accidentally ran over them with a forklift. The frame was so thin from rust that it broke in half when the owner attempted to tow the vehicle. Truly a waste of a beautiful car.

Lamborghini Diablo, Mazda RX-7 and Ferrari Testarossa

thailand

The Lamborghini Diablo Mazda RX-7 (not really a supercar, but still a waste) and the Ferrari Testarossa shown above were all found abandoned in Bangkok, Thailand.

Jaguar XJ220

xj220

The Jaguar XJ220 held the record for the fastest production car throughout 1992 after recording a top speed of 213mph. It was one of the most iconic supercars of the 90’s, which makes it all the more sad to see this one turn up abandoned in Qatar. The background story behind this one is unknown.

DeLorean DMC-12

delorean

The DeLorean DMC-12 is one of the most iconic cars in the world, largely due to the ‘Back to the Future’ movie franchise and also the vehicle’s unique styling. This particular car was found abandoned in the US State of Maine, looking to be in remarkably good condition thanks to the stainless steel body work. I sure hope someone saved this one!

Uday Hussein’s Ferrari F40

f40

Saddam Hussein’s son Uday was known for his love of money, women and supercars. His collection of cars, including this rare Ferrari F40, were abandoned in the latter stages of the Iraq war, where he was eventually killed in a shoot-out with American Troops. We’d like to think this car made it out of Iraq, but we’re not sure.

De Tomaso Pantera and Lamborghini Espada

pantera

This Italian De Tomaso Pantera was found abandoned in the middle east, though it had some company at least – with a fellow Italian sitting just across the road, in the form of a Lamborghini Espada.

Lamborghini Diablo

diablo

This abandoned V12 Lamborghini Diablo was spotted in a parking lot in Austria, with plenty of dust having gathered all over its 90’s rectangular-styled body. As you can see in the photo, people have written all over the car, with the heart drawn on the front being the saddest part of it all.

  1. Here, state side iv always been a proponent that if a car gets orange/red tagged (a sticker placed on the driver side window stating its going to be towed as its assumed abandoned ) that rather then the city claiming it the vehicle should be up for grabs by anyone who can tow it as a whole…Could you image all the bitchen tube frame track day racers you could make!?
