Hot new Abarth 124 Spider unveiled

Just in-case the Fiat 124 Spider wasn’t hot enough for you, Abarth has developed their own hot version of the 124 Spider.

The Abarth 124 Spider features a revised version of the regular car’s 1.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine – which produced 119kW (160hp) of power and 249Nm (184lb-ft) of torque. In the Abarth, it’ll generates 127kW (170hp) of power and 250Nm (184lb-ft) of torque. Drive is sent to the rear wheels via a standard limited-slip differential, through either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic. The power increase may be incremental, but Abarth say their 124 Spider will hit 100km/h (62mph) in 6.8 seconds – or about 0.7 seconds quicker than the regular car.

Abarth has made a few visual changes to the car, too, with new 17″ alloy wheels, a black painted bonnet and boot lid, more aggressive front and rear bumpers, four exhaust tips, and a Record Monza exhaust system tuned for a “beautiful growling sound”. We’re not completely sold on the blackout panels, but the rest of the car looks quite nice to us.

Inside, you’ll get faux suede highlights, aluminium pedals, plus red and black leather seats.

Sales of the Abarth 124 Spider are slated to begin in September across Europe.
