Subaru’s special S207 WRX STI

Subaru has used this year’s Tokyo Motor Show to announce a limited edition, special Japan-only version of its WRX STI. Dubbed the S207, the enhanced WRX STI model will offer an enhanced interior revised exterior styling, a range of handling upgrades and a more powerful version of the WRX STI’s 2.0L engine. Subaru announced they will produce just 400 vehicles in this specification.

Drivers of the regular WRX STI have never been left wanting for power, but the S207 has been given a small boost regardless. The 2.0L boosted boxer engine will be producing 241kW (414hp) at 7200rpm, with 431Nm (318lb-ft) of torque available between 3200 and 4800rpm – an increase of 14Kw (19hp) and 9Nm (7lb-ft) over the standard Japanese WRX STI.

Similarly, the WRX STI has always been a good steerer with bundles of grip, but the S207 has received upgrades here too, including a new faster 11:1 ratio steering rack and DampMatic adjustable dampers. Completing the handling upgrade package is an STI flexible tower bar and active torque vectoring. To help bring it all to a stop, the brakes have been upgrade to a Brembo six-piston setup at the front and four-piston rear monoblock calipers at the rear. Both front and rear rotors are cross drilled, with the fronts being two-piece units. The exterior of the S207 is differentiated from regular WRX STI’s by having larger 19-inch alloy wheels wrapped in high-performance 255/35R19 Dunlop Sport Maxx RT tyres, plus an S207-exclusive front spoiler and rear bumper air outlets.

The S207 enhancements continue on the inside, too, with semi-aniline leather STI-embossed Recaro sports seats with in-built heating functions, red instrumentation featuring the S207 logo, a centre console build plate and silver accent stitching throughout the interior.

Out of the 400 vehicles which will be produced, 200 of them will receive an additional ‘NBR Challenge Package’, which adds a dry carbon rear spoiler, ultrasuede trimmed steering wheel, red seatbelts, and black 19-inch BBS alloy wheels. 100 of these NBR models will be available as a Yellow Edition, finished in Sunrise Yellow paint with black side mirrors.
