Edd China’s Garage Revival Pilot – The Golf GT(I)

3

After more than a year away from our screens, Edd China is back with what he hopes will be a new program series.

In Edd China’s Garage Revival, Edd visits car owners whose restoration projects have got the better of them, to help to get them back on track. In this pilot episode, Edd travels to Norway to get a Golf MK1 GTI back where it belongs – on the road.

If your favourite part of Wheeler Dealers was always the workshop scenes, Edd China’s Garage Revival should be exactly what you’re looking for. It keeps what was good about that particular show while removing some of the less popular aspects – such as the haggling, buying and selling of the vehicles.

Edd’s new series has yet to be picked up by a TV network, but rather conveniently the 40-minute episode length would be ridiculously easy to adapt to a 1-hour timeslot with ad breaks included. Judging by the current ratings on YouTube – 2,700+ thumbs up and just 9 thumbs down – we think it won’t take long for the offers to come flowing in.

  1. Having watched the pilot I’d argue that it’s mostly a good show that just needs some fine-tuning (pun intended). With a format very similar to Velocity’s Garage Squad, Edd manages to bring his comfortable delivery and knowledgeable insights into the equation. Recognizing that this was just a pilot, one can forgive a few things that didn’t quite work (e.g. too much time spent on the headlining project compared to the engine). I also wondered why Edd ended up having to go to Norway to film this – the language barrier and complex Norwegian inspection regulations seemed strangely unnecessary given that I’m sure he could’ve found plenty of punters in the UK who would want his help on their project cars.
Bottom line, it’s good to once again see Edd in front of the camera working on classic cars. Hopefully, the show will get picked up and tweaked soon.
