Clarkson’s new show filmed in 4K

Jeremy Clarkson confirmed yesterday in an exchange with a fan on Twitter that his new Amazon Prime motoring show will be shot and broadcast in ultra-fine detail 4K resolution.

Broadcasting in 4K will mark a shift for Clarkson and his co-hosts James May and Richard Hammond, who began filming Top Gear in the lesser standard of “high-definition” in July 2007.

By his own standards, Clarkson had a busy night on Twitter, answering other fans’ questions. One cheekily suggested to the 55-year-old TV host that because Jaguars are native to North America, the US pronunciation should be regarded as correct. Clarkson shot him down with a short reply: “And aluminium?”

A number of the host’s other replies were made around 4am, indicating that Clarkson has possibly not entirely recovered from jetlag after his trip across to Seattle earlier in the week, where he is thought to have visited Amazon’s global corporate headquarters.

So far, little is known about the new show’s format, but filming began on the show two weeks ago when Clarkson, Hammond and May descended on the Algarve International Circuit in Portimao, Portugal, to race three of the world’s most expensive supercars.

The new Amazon show is expected to begin screening in the middle of next year.
