The Grand Tour

The Grand Tour Series 2 start date, and what we know so far

Depending on who you talk to, Series 1 of the The Grand Tour was either a masterclass of car-based perfection, or a slightly-flawed gem which required some much-needed polishing. But what we all think matters little – as it went on to become the most illegally downloaded series of all time, which proves Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May must have been doing something right – and as we speak they’re currently busy working away on the second series. So what do we know about it so far?

When will The Grand Tour Series 2 begin?

So far, Amazon has refused to reveal when Series 2 of The Grand Tour will be available to stream on Amazon Prime. But as is usually the way with the boys, they occasionally let details slip which they probably should have kept secret. During a live stream on Facebook, Clarkson announced the show will fly back onto screens ‘this year’, which James May elaborated further on:

“Series 2 will go out this year at the same time the last one went out — whenever that was.” – James May

The first episode of The Grand Tour Series 1 kicked off on November 18th, 2016 – so we can safely assume that we’ll all be waiting quite a while longer before we see Series 2. Maybe we can all watch Series 1 again? Or Top Gear? Or Wheeler Dealers?

Will Richard Hammond’s motorcycle accident be shown?

Just in case you missed it, back in March this year Richard Hammond was knocked unconscious after crashing a motorcycle while filming for The Grand Tour. The good (or bad) news is we will all be able to see exactly what happened, as the accident is expected to feature in Series 2 of The Grand Tour.

The crew for The Grand Tour raced to help Hammond, mindful that he previously suffered serious brain damage after a high speed jet-powered dragster crash 11 years ago. It is not known if he was wearing a helmet in the latest drama, but we’d say for health and safety reasons he probably was.

A source from The Grand Tour has said: “Richard was travelling quite fast when he came off. It caused instant horror on set. There was a lot of concern. If his injuries had been serious it wouldn’t have been easy to get medical attention. It’s very remote there and facilities are basic.”

“The lads are known for having a laugh on set but Richard’s previous accident is fresh in their minds,” the source also mentioned. “They were all shaken by the latest incident. But now they know Richard is fine they are back to jokes and banter.”

What other changes can we expect?

While the first 12 episodes of The Grand Tour have no doubt been entertaining, we couldn’t help but notice a few slightly annoying aspects which we hope will be ironed out for Series 2.

The first of which is that annoying Stig replacement known as The American – Mike Skinner. We struggled to find any redeeming features – his complaints whilst behind the wheel were not funny, and don’t even mention the communist jokes – they were shitty. We’d be surprised if he appeared in the same capacity for Series 2, so hopefully he’ll be muted or removed.

Another aspect of The Grand Tour which we hope will be removed is ‘Celebrity Braincrash’, but that also remains unconfirmed. We all get it – due to legal reasons they weren’t allowed to conduct guest interviews or hold laps in a reasonably priced car. But it simply wasn’t entertaining to see the guests pretend-killed en-route to the tent every single week, so why even bother with the segment at all? We hope to never see it ever again.

One thing we can be sure on, is that ‘Conversation Street’ will definitely be returning in Series 2, as Clarkson, Hammond and May revealed that they have filmed enough of the opening sting sequences to last them at least three years. Conversation Street is basically “The News” from Top Gear, so it makes sense to keep it in.

How many more Series can we expect?

The good news here is Amazon has already signed on for three full series of The Grand Tour, so even after Series 2 has wrapped up, the boys will begin filming for Series 3. So, there’s still 24 episodes remaining – 12 for Series 2 and 12 for Series 3. There’s also a possibility that the show will be renewed for Series 4 and beyond, if the previous series continue to rate highly – and assuming Clarkson, Hammond and May still have the energy to continue on with it.

The waiting game continues

So from what we know so far, Series 2 of The Grand Tour is still at least 6 months away – so we’ve all got a long wait time ahead of us. But from what we know about Clarkson and Co, the team will have learned from their past mistakes and we’re confident they’ll be able to deliver a show which is even more polished and refined than what’s come before – and as usual, we’ll keep you up to date with all the sightings and spoilers as they happen.

Also just like the episode of top gear with Hammonds big crash the BBC has never shown a repeat of it and also dave has never shown it , probably because his family has asked for it never to be shown cause it might bring it all back to surface .

We need to send the American to Celebrity Brain Crash… Problem solved!

That’s actually a really good idea – they could kill him off in the first episode and then never ever do it again.

Perhaps GT is deeper than we think…might they be doing it to sarcastically criticize Chris Evans for his ghastly attempts at celebrity interviews?
