James May reveals his opinion about new Top Gear

A lot of people have taken the easy option and criticised new Top Gear, following the departure of Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James may, promising that it’ll ‘always be shit’ and that they’re never going to watch it again, even if you paid them. But it seems as though they might be the ones missing out, after James May gave the show his seal of approval this week.

May told BBC Breakfast he had “tried to be quite philosophical about” the end of his run on the programme with Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond.

“What we’ve ended up with is us refreshing ourselves a bit and having a bit of a rethink about how we do it, making space for some other people to take over our old programme,” he said, “where they’re doing an increasingly good job of it. I do think that the viewers now have two shows to watch, where they had one before. We can spark off each other a bit.”

“I don’t really see that anybody loses out,” he added.

Patrick Holland, controller of BBC2, recently said the show with its current presenter line-up could not be compared to its previous incarnation.

“You’re looking at two completely different shows,” he said.

“We have turned over a new leaf. It’s a new team. Chris and Rory have been fantastic and Matt has been terrific in the films and he’s really started to enjoy the studios more and more.

“The audience is younger. Young people really love the new Top Gear.”

In the old days TG was high-level family entertainment. Now it’s as exciting as the weather report

These new guys are clearly better at reading scripts than the “old” hosts. After season 16 I couldn’t really watch anymore top gear

Dear Sean McKellar, YES we all already know that you are the biggest Matt-Chris-Rory`s Top Gear fanboy ever…

But lets face it – all new presenters still sucks… and Sabine & Eddie should got BAN from any next parts…

But have to agree with James May – better 2 shows than 1 …

I think you have ‘missed the boat’. The previous presenters had great chemistry & made things very interesting with their comments. The new TG, although is a different program, we have to say the photography remains outstanding…but the only presenter with corisma is Chris Harris. BBC…you should make up with the old team and bring them back.

I disagree because I’d rather have two shows to enjoy. Just wish they filled the entire year so I didnt have car show downtime.
