Aston Martin teams up with Red Bull Racing for new hypercar

News has emerged that Aston Martin is working away on a new supercar, although this one has the potential to be radically different from their usual DB models. Dubbed the AM-RB 001 project, the model will be jointly developed with Red Bull Racing. They’re even referring to it as a hypercar

The freshly inked “Innovation Partnership” has been a long time in the making and will combine the talents of Aston Martin’s chief designer Marek Reichman with those of Red Bull’s legendary technical director Adrian Newey. Motorsports consultancy AF Racing AG will also collaborate with Q by Aston Martin Advanced and Red Bull Advanced Technologies to get the project off the ground and onto the road – and the track.

At this stage details are sparse, but Reichman says the partnership is “in the process of developing a hypercar that combines the latest in aerodynamics from F1 and the stunning design language of an Aston martin sports car.” One way or another, we imagine it should easily be a worthy successor to the likes of the One-77 or the track-only Vulcan.

The last time Red Bull dipped their toes outside the confines of F1 regulations, they gave us the RBR X2010 – although that was a fictional prototype vehicle which featured in Gran Turismo 5 & 6. The hypothetical car was designed as an ultimate racing machine with pure speed in mind, and was based on a low air resistance, single seater covered wheel prototype, a wing car powered by a forced induction engine producing 1103kW (1479hp).

We’ll be watching closely to see how this new supercar project comes together.

If Aston had based their collaboration choice on who made the best non existent car then they should have made a bee line for SRT. The Tomahawk X obliterates the already insane X2014 Fan Car (there’s been a few more models since the x2010)
