Jaguar to put F-Type R’s supercharged V8 into the F-Pace

When it comes to sports cars and performance sedans, Jaguar are on a bit of a roll at the moment – what with their bad-ass F-Type XFR vehicles. But as for the F-Pace, is the range-topping 283kW model going to be as hot as it gets? Will Jaguar shy away from going up against the BMW X5 M, or Mercedes-Benz and their cache of AMG SUVs?

Not by a long shot. In fact, word has it that Jaguar are currently working on a high-performance variant of the F-Pace, engineered by its SVO division and powered by nothing less than their supercharged V8 engine, which is rated at 404kW (542hp). Prototypes are already running around, and a hi-po F-Pace could arrive on the market as early as 2017.

There are also rumours that Jaguar might be looking to shoehorn the same supercharged V8 engine into their XE sedan, which would help take the fight to the BMW M3 and Mercedes-AMG C63. There’s no final decision as yet, but you can be sure Jaguar Land Rover will be looking at the business case for that very closely indeed.
