The Grand Tour

Our analysis of The Grand Tour Series 3 trailer

This week Amazon Prime Video finally released their preview trailer for highly anticipated third series of The Grand Tour, while simultaneously announcing that it will launch Friday 18th January 2019. But if you wanted to know more about some of the scenes which appeared in said trailer, you’re in luck!

We’ve painstakingly gone through the trailer scene-by-scene and compared it to all of the spoiler information we’ve accumulated over the past year for The Grand Tour Series 3 – so that you don’t have to go searching for it. So read on and start getting excited!

The Colombia Special

(0:00 – 0:25) – The first part of the trailer (0:00 – 0:25) shows Richard Hammond’s lifted flame-red Chevrolet Silverado perched precariously on a tiny bridge over a steep canyon. The following few scenes with Jeremy Clarkson and James May right up to the 25-second mark are all from the highly anticipated Colombia Special.

The trailer shows additional scenes from Colombia at 0:49 to 0:52, and 1:01 to 1:07.

The Grand Tour in Detroit

(0:25 – 0:30) – It wouldn’t be The Grand Tour without going to America to sample a few of their latest muscle cars, would it? Back in June, the trio were spotted driving through Detroit around the historic Packard Automotive Plant. Rather fittingly, the vehicles they were driving all originate from Detroit – the Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, Chevrolet Hennessey Exorcist Camaro, and Ford Mustang RTR.

The trailer shows additional scenes from Detroit from 0:42 to 0:47, 1:01 to 1:07, and 1:15 – 1:21.

The Grand Tour in Scotland

(0:30 – 0:41) – Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May were spotted in Scotland back in April, driving an Alfa Romeo, Fiat and Lancia along the North Coast 500 – an iconic touring route in the far North. At this stage, we’re not really sure what they got up to, but all signs are pointing to Cheap Italian Sportscar Challenge.

The trailer shows additional scenes from Scotland from 0:57 to 1:00.

The Grand Tour in Mongolia

(0:47 – 0:48 & 0:52 – 0:56) – The Mongolia Special will be a six-day camping trip across the country, which according to Clarkson was a “six-day orgy of exhaustion, animal lavatory facilities, discomfort, dirty fingernails, damp camping trip clothes, army food and James May’s spinnaker-sized sinuses.” There were also plenty of insects, which is something that should go down well with Hammond – who is notoriously scared of them.

American Motorhomes

(0:57 – 0:58) – In September The Grand Tour headed stateside and sampled a variety of American motorhomes. This quick 1-second piece of footage from the trailer suggests that the boys may have customised their vehicles for some sort of challenge.

Lamborghini Urus in the snow

(1:07 – 1:14) – Earlier this year Jeremy Clarkson teased us with photos on his Instagram of a bright yellow Lamborghini Urus he was driving whilst filming for The Grand Tour Series 3. Thanks to this latest trailer, we now know that he was racing around a giant penis-shaped race track in the snow, alongside The Grand Tour’s resident racing driver Abbie Eaton in a Porsche 911.

Clarkson reviews the McLaren Senna

(1:26 – 1:28) – Back in August, we revealed that Jeremy Clarkson was driving the new McLaren Senna supercar for The Grand Tour Series 3. “This may just be the new best supercar,” Clarkson said at the time. “It’s more delicate than any Ferrari and more bonkers to behold than even the maddest Lambo.”

An explosive dual-cab ute test

(1:22 – 1:25 & 1:29 – 1:33) – Little is known about the segment at this stage, but from the trailer it appears that Clarkson, Hammond and May are putting a selection of dual-cab utes through a series of dramatic tests – involving pulling down a statue and blowing things up using a rear-mounted machine gun. For reasons unknown, May also gets hit in the head by a flying lettuce.

The test with the pick-ups, is definitly going to be a test like “which of these two cars is the best terrorist vehicle/technical, when you dont have a toyota hillux”

the lettuce is like a test for protest, the statue thing is like the moment when the us army pulled down the saddam statue in bagdad and the scene where the helicopter blows up is a test of rear mounted machine guns… i guess…

Nice but some footage in Mongolia is actually from Colombia as we see the Wrangler, Silverado and Panda. Also the PickUp challenge is taking place in Wales. Plus footage at 0:46 shows the Hammond driving the Aston Martin Vantage.
