Wheeler Dealers

Wheeler Dealers returns in May with 8 new episodes

Wheeler Dealers is set to return to our screens next month, with an array of second-hand cars in need of a second chance. In what will be Series 15, Mike and Ant will fix and flip a variety of unique used cars from their southern California shop.

In the new series, Mike and Ant manage to get their hands on a 1988 Jeep Grand Wagoneer – an iconic American SUV. Currently they’re hot property in the US, but their particular example has a sagging suspension and a defective four-wheel drive system. But with the chance of making some serious profit, Ant gets to work.

Mike also finds a rare, rally-bred 1972 Lancia Fulvia. He and Ant must fix its bad CV joints, a broken heater, cracked dash and a debris-clogged fuel system, and also drag a rare 1972 Datsun 510 2-door into the 21st century. The engine is in good order, but the bad paint job, gearbox and bodywork let it down.

Below is a full list of models which will be featured:

  • 1988 Jeep Grand Wagoneer
  • 1987 Alfa Romeo Spider Quadrifoglio
  • 1977 Porsche 924
  • 1969 Opel GT 1900
  • 1972 Lancia Fulvia
  • 1972 Datsun 510
  • 2002 Mini Cooper S MC40
  • 1970 International Scout

Wheeler Dealers will return exclusively to the UK on Discovery Channel, 9pm, Monday 21st May (Sky 125, Virgin 250, BT TV 322).

One thing I should mention about this season is that it’s a bit odd the show is working on a couple of cars that they’ve previously featured – a 1983 Porsche 924 was worked on in the very first episode of WD back in 2003, and a 1972 Alfa Spider was featured in season 4 back in 2006. Sure, there’s a little variation in the models (e.g the Alfa Veloce versus the Quadrifoglio), but essentially they’re the same car.
However, in fairness the same can’t be said about the Mini – yes, they’ve worked on Minis back in season 1 and 6, but this season was the first of the new BMW Minis that they’ve done.

Like many fans of Wheeler Dealers, I was disappointed last year when Edd announced that he was leaving the show, and I was concerned that a new mechanic on the show would result in a drop in quality. However I’ve watched the entire first half of season 14 and the first few episodes of the 2nd half of season 14 over here on Velocity in the US, and I’m now confident that Ant is a worthy successor to Edd. Sure, Ant is different in his delivery and mannerisms, but in terms of his mechanical knowledge and his ability to convey that knowledge there’s no drop in quality from when Edd was on the show.

Glad they are making more, and keeping cars on the road. It SUX that EDD left, hopefully Ant can fit in. Mike is afterall the main guy and he is a real trip, the perfect guy for his part. Mike is humble when it comes to the show, and EDD was not condesending is the word I think about Edd. I havent seen enough of Ant to decide if he will be right guy for the job, so far he seems OK and has not said or done anything real stupid that I’ve seen. Wanna see the show do good cause I like alot, which surprises me cause Im not a fan of Euro cars although they do all kinds of cars. One thing that I really like is they buy cars make them perfect or close and sell them at a fair affordable price which is rare, thats way cool.
