Top Gear staff ‘celebrated’ after Chris Evans announced he was leaving

Top Gear staff reportedly celebrated after Chris Evans quit the BBC motoring show. The TV host announced yesterday on Twitter that he was stepping down after just one series. A source from within the Top Gear team told The Sun: “Chris is gone – everyone here is celebrating. It’s been a disaster.” Matt LeBlanc is expected to take over as the main presenter after the BBC said Evans wouldn’t be replaced and there would be no changes to the presenting line-up.

The insider added: “Matt is going to get the big job on his own. There are already active negotiations and he’s almost certain to sign now that he doesn’t have to work with Chris. Chris won’t be replaced but Matt will become the star presenter surrounded by the existing team. The show is about more than one person.”

The Stig, Sabine Schmitz, Chris Harris and Eddie Jordan remain as presenters on the show.

A BBC spokesman denied reports that Evans’ old colleagues celebrated his exit, saying: “There is no truth in reports that the Top Gear team celebrated Chris’ departure.”

Announcing his decision to quit, Evans tweeted: “Stepping down from Top Gear. Gave it my best shot but sometimes that’s not enough. The team are beyond brilliant, I wish them all the best. Full steam ahead then with Radio 2, CarFest, Children In Need, 500 Words and whatever else we can dream up in the future.”

Has anybody else noticed the ‘like’ counter on the Top Gear facebook page is going backwards as Clarkson fans take back their likes.

It’s dropped by 3500 over the past few days and almost 700 yesterday. That means that 700 more people unliked the page yesterday than liked it.

It’s at 14,831,122 now….check it out and unlike it!

Great thing happened to TG. Evans does not have much automotive knowledge / does not know how to express. Instead he expressed via shouting and his accent is horrible. I don’t know how TG HR team recruited him. Clarkson has decades of experience in Automobile field. Evans is working as Radio jockey.

Rory and Harris are good. Eddie and Sebine are both irritating. Now the huge load falls to LeBlanc’s shoulders. Hope he will make it.

Now Mr. SHOUT has gone also get rid of Eddie ( where am I ? ) Jordon and chain Sabrina to the
Nürburgring never to darken the world of Tv presenting again !
get rid of the celebrity rubbish maybe an average man/woman in average car segment picked from the Audience by ticket number dump the rally part of the track
maybe dump the whole segment and have 1 celebrity road test per episode ?
Mat/Rory/Harris have a good chance of saving the reputation of TG in Series 24

Good. The worst is his 20 minute celebrity interview segment …or segment(s). It goes on and on, is so boring and has nothing to do with cars. If I wanted to watch a celebrity interview I’d watch the Tonight Show. …Ironically Jay Leno’s Garage was on opposite on CNBC in the US so I watched that and waited and waited for the new so called Top Gear to get back to cars. (Leno’s Garage by the way is fantastic!)
Chris Harris and Rory Reid are excellent. When these guys are on they are interesting and funny. It’s like the producers forgot that the original formula was car guys being funny. These are car guys. Their feelings about matters have depth and meaning. They’re metaphors regarding car’s sensations are witty, and if I might be so bold “Clarksonesk.” They should be hosting this show. A sitcom actor and a radio host pretending to be car guys pretending to be funny is so contrived. It is ungenuine and therefore neither substantive nor funny. After 5 episodes I’ve yet to hear Mr. Evans say one thing either interesting or funny. And I’ve had NO trouble hearing him.

Lol, I like how The Stig has been credited as a presenter. I can imagine a Stig road test. A lot of powersliding and standing still and silent for the rest of it 😛
